Horse Riding Adventures at Barkala are like stepping back in time. Once you arrive at Barkala you’re already in another world. But when you take part in one of Barkala’s horse riding adventures you just as well could be in heaven ….

The romance and freedom of horse riding was one of the big reasons for the move to Australia, and the Rickert children virtually grew up on horseback.
Now adults, they take great pleasure in sharing their love of horses with visitors, and run short rides for beginners, longer rides for those with more experience, and two and four-day Adventure Camps for those who really want to feel what it means to experience the bush. Camping under the stars and exploring the ridges, paddocks and valleys of the Pilliga is an experience never to be forgotten. Read on for all the details!

From beginners to experienced riders, we have something to suit everyone. Our horses are well trained, calm and reliable, and our ride leaders are highly experienced. Helmets are provided. Experience the thrill, excitement and magic of one of humanity’s oldest partnerships in beautiful and peaceful natural surroundings. All rides include a lesson in horse care and saddling.

Standard Horse Trail Ride

A two to three hour ride over paddocks and paddock roads, surrounded by lovely hills and ridges. This ride can be tailored to suit any level of experience, from beginner (nice and easy) to something more challenging if required.

Cost: $55 per person Duration: 2 – 3 hours Level of Experience: Beginners and up.

For the Littlies – Horse Leading

A safe, wonderful experience for those beginners too young to ride independently. Children will be led around the horse stable paddock and nearby for half an hour of fun on horseback. They won’t want to get off again!

Cost: $20 per child Duration: 30 mins Level of Experience: Young beginners. Not appropriate for under 5 year olds.

Horse Riding Adventure Camp – Four Days

Get away from it all for real. Four days and nights of fun and adventure, including two nights of camping under the stars and three full days of riding through some of the most beautiful country in the Pilliga. Experience the peace of the real Aussie bush as we roam the hills and valleys of Australia’s largest inland forest. All meals provided, including a delicious wood-fired pizza night when you arrive and a big BBQ on the final evening. Swags provided.

Horse Riding Adventure Camp – Two Days

A shorter version of the four day camp, for those who have less time to spare but still want to get away on horseback and sleep under the stars. Includes two days riding through beautiful ridge country, one night camping at the peaceful Eagle Valley, and a visit to the magical Pine Park Spring. All meals and swags provided.

Cost: $245 per person. Minimum number of three riders applies. Duration: 2 days, 2 nights Level of Experience: Experienced riders only.
