School excursions

Johannes the Potter attracts full attention

Some of the topics that can be learned about include:

  • Where the clay comes from
  • Milling, Mixing and Filtering of clays in our clay mill
  • ‘Throwing’ a pot on the wheel by our master Potters
  • Decorating the pottery by our artists
  • The firing process in our large Kiln

The school excursions can be fully tailored to requirements, depending on age of children and size of group.

Each tour includes an educational session and a demonstration as well as a hands on session. Like a demonstration on the pottery wheel and viewing our artists at work as well as a comprehensive educational tour of Pilliga Pottery at Barkala farm.

Lunch can be provided.

Over the years we have successfully welcomed schools from the entire region. Coonbarabran, Narrabri , Gunnedah and beyond.

Although located “in the Bush” busses can access our property with ease and the trip alone is a worthwhile experience for children as they will have a good chance to spot Kangaroos, Emus and other wildlife from nearby.
