Summer temperatures sometimes soar above 40 C but in general hover around 25 C during the day . Winter temperatures hover around 17 C during the day and can drop below zero during the night.

At Siding Springs in the Warumbungles is Australia’s national Telescope located. The clear skies , the high altitude and good connections to many major towns and Cities made Coonabarabran the obvious choice for the national Observatory.
